User Guide

Your cistern, at a glance — from your phone.

Everything the app does, in one place: read your levels, set up alerts, understand leak detection, and manage your devices.

Getting started

Four steps from install to live readings.

  1. 1

    Download the app

Install the Your Ideas VI app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Open it and create an account with your email, or sign in if you already have one.

  2. 2

    Add your first device

Tap "Add Device" on the home screen and follow the prompts to connect the gauge to your Wi-Fi. The full pairing flow is covered in the troubleshooting guide.

  3. 3

    Enter your tank dimensions

Open the new device and enter the four cistern measurements. The app converts the sensor distance into gallons and percent-full from these numbers.

  4. 4

    Watch it go live

Within about a minute the device reports its first reading. Your tank now appears on the home screen with a live level and last-updated time.

New hardware not mounted yet? Start with the installation guide.

Reading the home screen

Every cistern you add appears as a card. Here is what each part tells you.

Percent full

Each tank card shows how full the cistern is right now, calculated from your dimensions and the latest sensor reading.

Gallons remaining

The estimated volume of water left, so you know exactly how much you have — not just a percentage.

Connection status

A colored indicator shows whether the device is online and reporting. Offline devices are flagged so a stale reading is never mistaken for a live one.

Last updated

The time of the most recent reading. A healthy device updates regularly throughout the day.

Inside a device

Tap a tank to open its detail view.

Live level

The current percent-full and gallons, front and center, refreshed as new readings arrive.

History graph

A trend of your water level over time — see how fast you are using water, spot a refill, or catch a slow drain.

Device settings

Reach tank dimensions, alert thresholds, Wi-Fi reconfiguration, and data management from the info (i) and three-dot (⋯) menus in the top corner.

Alerts & notifications

The app pushes a notification when something needs your attention — even when it is closed.

Low water

Fires when your level drops below the threshold you set, so you can schedule a delivery before you run dry.

Sensor fault

Tells you when the gauge stops returning valid readings — usually an obstruction, a loose connection, or a shifted sensor.

Device offline

Lets you know the gauge has stopped reporting (often a Wi-Fi or power issue) so a stale number is never mistaken for live data.

Possible leak

With leak detection enabled, alerts you to abnormal water loss that does not match normal usage — often the first sign of a leak.

Leak detection

Leak detection turns your cistern monitor into an early-warning system. Instead of only telling you how much water you have, it watches how your water is being used and speaks up when something looks wrong.

  • Watches your usage pattern around the clock and learns what normal looks like for your tank.
  • Flags continuous or unusual water loss that does not line up with everyday use.
  • Sends a push notification the moment a possible leak is detected, so small problems do not become expensive ones.

Configuring your tank

Open a device and use the settings menu to fine-tune how it reports.

Tank dimensions

Width, length, height, and overflow height drive every gallon and percentage. Keep these accurate — re-enter them if you ever re-mount the sensor.

Alert thresholds

Set the low-water level that triggers a warning, so the alert lines up with how much lead time you need for a delivery.

Managing devices & data

Reconnect to new Wi-Fi

Changed routers or moved the gauge? Put the device in setup mode and re-run pairing from the device menu. Step-by-step instructions are in the troubleshooting guide.

Replace failed hardware

If a gauge fails, the reconfigure flow lets the replacement take over the same logical device — your history, alerts, and settings carry over with no data loss.

Erase device data

Clears all readings for a device while keeping it paired to your account. This cannot be undone, so the app asks you to confirm.

Delete a device

Removes the device and all of its data from your account. To use it again you would add it from scratch. The app asks you to confirm.

Frequently asked

How often does my level update?
The gauge reports new readings regularly throughout the day. The exact cadence balances freshness against device power use.
Do I need to keep the app open to get alerts?
No. Alerts are delivered as push notifications, so you are notified even when the app is closed — as long as notifications are enabled for the app.
Can I monitor more than one cistern?
Yes. Add a gauge for each tank and they all appear on your home screen, each with its own level, history, and alerts.
My reading looks wrong — what should I check?
Confirm your tank dimensions are entered correctly and that nothing is obstructing the sensor. The troubleshooting guide walks through stuck and erratic readings.
